Service Learning Reflection(April 11)

(1)Three positives about the meeting on the 11th was..... we were starting to get organized with our information, we were very focused and ready to work, and we i delivered a message to a couple of service learning groups and told ask them if they can recycle any bottles or any trash they have that can be recycled. Things that need to be improved is that we work diligently every meeting because this was the only day we were focused and ready to do work. This is the only improvement we need to make in our group. I dont have any questions about my role or mission in my group. My role is to be a leader and set examples which i am currently doing and my mission is to get people to recycle.

(2)www.panda.org is a good website that relate to my group because on the website it talks about one of the main items that get recycled and what is made out of the recycled scraps. Some ideas this gives me for my group is to....only collect glass and compare number to what they got and another one is we can bring in some things glass is made out of

Plans for Service learning(May 9)

What i plan for tomorrows service learning meeting is to compare information and pick out the most important things about what we research. I also want to do another clean up around the area and compare from the last time we cleaned up. I think we can achieve these goals because we have potential well at least some of us do. These are my plans for tomorrows meeting

May 1 Service Learning Meeting

On Thursday we were supposed to bring research about recycling but not enough people bring there work so we came down to the IMC and found some research. We made alot of progress. I say that because we have a finished chart to record our data and we have a nice amount of research. That's pretty much what we did on Thursday. I will keep you posted see you next week.

Service Learning Reflection(April 25)

On this service learning day we walked around and actually was picking up trash. We went to Franklin Square and found alot of trash. We also went up chestnut but we didnt really find that much trash because the street cleaning people already got up all the trash. This is all that we did because we started late.

Plans for Service learning

This afternoon in service learning we are going to talk about the research each of us found. We are then going to compare and put together the best information for our survey. This is all know for now but what I plan to do is start a practice run of recycling. I want to do a practice run because we can get ideas based on how smoove the proccess go. This is my plan for service learning today.

Thursday Service learning 4-17-08

On thursday we talked about researching on different things to recycle. Such as glass, paper, aluminum, and cardboard. We were assigned different things to research and i got chosen to research on glass. At first I didn't like my group but it is starting to come around. We also talked about some questions to ask people about them recycling because we are making a survey. This pretty sums up everything we did on thursday.

My Service Learning

I would want to work with the ap bio class for the school service learning. The staff members I would like to work with is Ms. Thomas or Mr. Carpenter. For my independent service learning I want to work at the chop organization at Children's Hospital.

NHD Reflection

The topic I chose for NHD was The Great Compromise. The way I decided to display my project was through an exhibit. I only had one partner while doing this project and that person was Atiya Groomes. During the process of doing this project I learned a couple of things such as the importance of research, the importance of teamwork, and i learned alot about my topic. In any project research is the most important thing because it gives you good and accurate information about your project, depending on how well you research. I used alot of internet sources which are secondary sources but i found it better to do interviews and going behind your limit to get information. A lot of books will help also. What I learned about my project was I found out what it was first because I didn't really know what it was when it was first mentioned to me. I also found out that the conflict was a Debate between two states(Virginia & New jersey) about representation for each state and the compromise was that each state would be given to senators for each house of representatives. One major thing about my project was teamwork. Without teamwork i wouldn't of had a project. My partner and I divided up the work and did different things which helped us accomplish more things at one time. I personally think that NHD isn't as hard as every said it was going to be. It was a little out of order at first but as it got organized to me it was cake. Pretty much everything we did was successful as far as the interviews, all the information, and getting our board together but there was one problem we had and that was finding pictures of the documents from each state. We overcame this challenge by looking at more internet sources and not giving up. Next year I think that we should start preparing for NHD earlier than we did this year so it can give people who didn't do that well more time to make their project nice.

My thesis staement

At the constitutional convention in 1787 the delegates debated for weeks on how the people would be represented, they came to a compromise that resolved every ones conflict but was not in every ones best interest.

Topic essay

The topic I chose for my national history day project is the Great Compromise. The Great Compromise was a debate between the New Jersey plan and the Virginia plan. I chose the Great Compromise because I wanted to find out the outcome of the debate and what was the debate about. Well so far I found out that it was an argument between the New Jersey plan and the Virginia plan. The argument of the debate was that the New Jersey plan wanted only one vote per state because they didn’t have a large population but the Virginia plan wanted representation of each state based on the population or wealth because they had a large population. A compromise was reached on June 19, 1787 in Philadelphia. The larger states rejected the New Jersey plan but was in the favor of the Virginia plan and the smaller states was against the Virginia plan but in favor of the New Jersey plan. The New Jersey plan didn’t want the Virginia plan to win the debate because they feared that they will have no power. But, the convention decided, after months of debate, that the legislature will be bicameral, meaning there will be two houses, one house will have equal representation, while the other is based on population of the state. All of this took place at the U.S constitution.

This topic relates to the theme of conflict and compromise because there was a problem that both the New Jersey and Virginia plan needed to solve which was they wanted to find out how many representatives each state should have and it ended with a resolution /compromise which was the legislature turned out to be bicameral. Another reason why I picked this topic was that it was mentioned to me by Atiya Gomes and the way she explained it to me it sound interesting and right away I knew that this was going to be my topic for national history day.

During this research process I want to learn more about the whole Constitution and not just about the great compromise. I want to learn about the 3 fifths compromise and the electoral college also. I also want to know the reasons why this debate started. This is a good and exiting topic in my eyes. If you don’t think so right this moment just wait until the project is done and I can assure you that you will feel the same way

School Religion

I don’t think that religions should be expressed in school. I don’t think it should be expressed in school because some people believe in different religions and might be offended by what some people say. You know how in different religions people have different beliefs in god, well that can start a big fight or argument. For example Muslims believe in Allah and Christians believe in god, they are to different beliefs and they will start an argument on who they should believe in. Another reason why religions shouldn’t be expressed in school is because some people may look at you different if you don’t believe in the same thing they do. Like if you are not a Baptist every one who is will not like you because you don’t believe in the same thing. So to avoid all of these problems and obstacles people should just deal with there religion at home and not in school.
